Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann Tuesday got several officials meeting rescheduled to a later date and rushed to New Delhi at a time when the Aam Aadmi Party is firefighting allegations that its Rajya Sabha member Raghav Chadha forged signatures in a motion related to the Delhi services bill.

Rajya Sabha Deputy Chairman Harivansh on Monday announced a probe into the complaints of at least four MPs that their names were included in a proposed select committee for the Delhi services bill without their consent. The select committee was proposed by Chadha.

The AAP has accused the BJP of spreading lies and claimed that allegations are an “attempt to disqualify” Chadha from the House.

While a close aide the CM said that Mann’s visit was already planned a week ago, sources privy to the developments, said that he postponed a few meetings scheduled for Tuesday to leave for Delhi. Before leaving for national capital, Mann chaired a meeting on Artificial Intelligence and its use in delivery of services.

“The CM had held a party meeting Monday. The CM had to go to Delhi anyway for a meeting with senior party leaders. Chadha issue is likely to be discussed. Party has already made its stand clear that Union Home Minister Amit wants to remove Chadha from Rajya Sabha,” said the aide.

Chadha is Rajya Sabha member from Punjab. He is also the chairman of the temporary advisory committee of Punjab government.

Earlier, another Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh posted a video on social media stating that if Chadha’s Rajya Sabha membership is taken away, then he would contest Lok Sabha elections.

This has set political circles abuzz with discussions that if at all, Chadha is removed from Rajya Sabha, he may contest elections from Punjab. Chadha has often stated that his maternal grandparents are from Punjab.
